Chapter 9 Notes

Its pretty hard for Nick to find people to come to gatsbys funeral
The funeral will be at 3
Gatsbys father came
Klipsinger called Nick but not for Gastby , he called for a pair of tennis shoes that he had left at Gatsbys house
People are not really coming to the funeral
It seems no one is calling to send there condolences
Mr wolfsheim doesn't wanna come to the funeral bc he doesn't wanna get mixed up in it

Gatsby Notes & Thoughts Chapter 8

Gatsby tells Nick that nothing happened between Tom and Daisy that night
Nick advices Gatsby to leave because theyl trace his car and Gatsby doesn't want to because he didn't want to leave Daisy until he knew what she was gonna do
When Gatsby first met Daisy he felt like he couldn't be with her if she knew he was poor he let her believe that he was from a rich family and they both fell in love with each other
The gardener interrupts Nick and Gatsbys conversation about the pool because there's always trouble with the pipes
Gatsby wants to swim at least once in the pool because he's never used it he only had it to impress Daisy
Later on Wilson starts getting suspicious and finds out that the car belongs to Gatsby
At the end Wilson kills Gatsby and then kills himself

Chapter 7 Notes

Gatsby stops having parties because he was only trying to get Daisys attention and when he did he didnt need the parties anymore
He fires his servants and replaces them with other people connected with Mayer Wolfsheim to prevent gossip
The difference between Daisy and Gatsbys reaction to her daughter is kind of a lot. Gatsby looks surprised and keeps staring at her in shock and Daisy has always kind if seemed like she ignored the fact she has a baby
Tom and Gatsby argued with each other over Daisy and Tom ended up winning
On the way back to Long Island they find that Myrtle has been ran over
At the end of the chapter Daisy and Tom are sitting like if nothing happened
This says alot about Daisys character because she just ran over someone and doesnt care and she doesnt give any attention to her daughter or even care about Tom's feelings that made him look for another girl

Gatsby Prompts Further Thinking

Some thing we read about that i think is worth discussing is how Gatsby really gets his money. i don't think they have explained that part good enough in the book.



Why does Daisy start liking Tom more ?
Why is Tom mad if he has another girlfriend ?
Why did Nick leave Gatsby alone standing in the moonlight ?

What Gatsby SaysTo Me

i think the central message of the book so far is that money wont always get you whatever you want no matter how much of it you have

Chapter 6 Notes

A reporter goes to get some information about Gatsby in front of his house
His original name is James Gatz
He worked on lake superior fishing for salmon and digging for clams
He met a man named Dan Cody who made Gatsby his personal assistant
Gatsby fell in love with wealth while he was working for Dan and when he died Gatsby dedicated himself to becoming a wealthy and successful man
Tom and Daisy go to a party at Gatsby's mansion and Tom seems a little suspicious about him
After they left Gatsby tells Nick he didn't like the fact that Daisy wasn't enjoying herself at the party because of some things that Tom said about Gatsby
Gatsby wants Daisy to leave Tom so he can be with her once again and he thinks he can accomplish everything he wants with his money
At the end Nick sees something in Gatsby something romantic and sweet but also very dangerous because he would do whatever it takes to get Daisy back

Notes And Thoughts On Gatsby Chapter 5

Gatsby was nervous when he met up with Daisy after 5 years
Daisy was nervous too
Nick left and came back after a while and Gatsby was no longer nervous but he was glowing
Gatsby also told Nick if he wanted another side job but he didn't say what kind and i think maybe its in the drug business
Gatsby tries to impress Daisy with his house and everything in it

I noticed that the book hasn't even mentioned Daisy's  baby again

Chapter 3

I just finished reading chapter 3 of The Great Gatsby and this is what i got out of it.
Nick and Jordan heard some pple talk about Gatsby n said he killed a man once and that hes a german spy. I think Gatsby is so mysterious bc he doesnt say anything to anyone.Nick sees someone in Gatsby's library and calls him a Belasco bc he puts on a show. Nick thinks that Gatsby was gonna be a fat red faced man. Nick also finds out that Jordan is a cheater. Gatsby and Nick have planned to go cruise on his hydroplane.

At the end Nick says that he is " one of the few honest people " that he knows. He says that bc all the other pple in the book either hide something or dont say what they really think.

Cardinal Sin

Nick tells us about his cardinal sin. He says his sin is that hes too honest. The events show us he is right about that and i think hes bieng humble.

Chapter 2 Notes

Nick was having dinner with Tom and Myrtle n they started arguing if she can say daisys name or not and Tom hit her in the  face

Nick Carraway and Tom Buchanan

The narrators name is Nick Carraway. Nick goes to New York to work in the bond business. He rents a house on a part of Long Island called West Egg. He has a cousin named Daisy who lives in East Egg and he goes to have dinner with her and her husband one day. Thats where we meet Tom. Tom doesnt seem like a friendly person and he talks about a book called The Rise Of The Coloured Empires and he starts talking about racist things.
Their dinner is interrupted when the phone rings and Tom goes to answer with Daisy following behind. Nick is unaware of what is happening untill he is informed that the person calling was Toms other girlfriend  and for some reason that caught my attention.
